FIX MY STREET NEEDS FIXING!
James Milligan MLA
Shadow Minister for City Services
Media Statement
30 May 2025
Thanks to the advocacy of James Milligan MLA, the Standing Committee on Environment, Planning, Transport and City Services has announced it will be undertaking an inquiry into Fix My Street.
Mr Milligan, the ACT Shadow Minister for City Services, called for the inquiry into the effectiveness of Fix My Street because he was “fed up” with the ACT Government’s continued neglect of basic city services, and disregard for community feedback.
“This inquiry is a big win for Canberrans. People want to live in a well-maintained city - one that is safe, accessible for all, surrounded by nature, and a place they are proud to call home. Based on the amount of people who currently use the Fix My Street system, people are willing to lean in and help the Government to achieve these goals,” Mr Milligan said.
“They want a system that is effective, and the current system is clearly broken. That’s why I called for this inquiry. We owe it to the community, to give them an opportunity to provide feedback so that the Government can deliver better local services.”
“It also provides an opportunity for Government Services to catchup with advances in modern technology to better support the Canberra community. Other local government bodies use alternatives to Fix My Street, including mobile apps with live updates. Even tools like the ACT Emergency Services Agency’s ‘incident map’ could help improve the system.”
“If you have used Fix My Street and have any ideas or feedback on how to improve it, we need to hear from you. This is your opportunity to influence how the Government better serves our community. These opportunities don’t come around often, so don’t miss out.”
